Justin Trudeau has resigned as leader of Canada’s governing party and suspended parliament for three months following an open revolt by his MPs over the soaring cost of food and the country’s housing crisis.
Before Christmas Chrystia Freeland, deputy prime minister, quit over disagreements surrounding how the Canadian government should respond to the threat of sweeping tariffs from Donald Trump’s incoming administration. This led to a mini revolt by 24 MPs.
