During a visit to the Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg took the opportunity to engage with employees and personally thank them for their hard work during one of the busiest times of the year.

Across the Maltese Islands, approximately 30,000 full-time and part-time workers are on duty in hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality services throughout the festive season.

Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering dedication of tourism sector workers and recognised their indispensable efforts in ensuring that both residents and visitors to Malta and Gozo enjoy a vibrant and memorable New Year’s Eve.

“As the nation comes together to celebrate the start of a new year, many of you are here ensuring our guests and fellow citizens create cherished memories. Your dedication is the backbone of Malta’s thriving tourism industry, and your efforts do not go unnoticed,” remarked Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg. He further called on employers to prioritise their workforce, emphasising that investment in their skills and well-being is essential for the sector’s long-term prosperity.

Acknowledging the broader contributions of essential service providers, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the collective effort required to keep the nation running smoothly during the holidays.

Joining the Deputy Prime Minister for this occasion were Malta Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Carlo Micallef and Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association representatives, including President Tony Zahra and CEO Andrew Agius Muscat. The visit underscored the Government’s commitment to recognising and supporting those who play a critical role in Malta’s tourism success story.
