The Ministry for Health and Active Ageing announced that the tender for the expansion and development of the Emergency Department at Mater Dei Hospital has been published.
The current site at Mater Dei Hospital consists of the Emergency Department and the adjacent car park, as well as a green area and the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) building. The proposed development will significantly transform this area. The existing Emergency Department car park will be changed as follows:
- Levels 9 and 10 – extension of the Emergency Department
- Levels 11, 12, 13 & 14 – Acute Mental Wards
- Level 15 – Plant Room
Additionally, the space above the existing MAU, located on Level 10, will be expanded to accommodate more Acute Wards on Levels 11 to 13.
- Construction of another Plant Room on Level 14.
- The current ecological zone will also be developed to include a new substation at Level 8 and 9.
- Level 10 will be converted into the new parking lot for the Emergency Department and Level 11 will provide an outdoor area specifically designed for Acute patients.
This extensive development aims to improve the hospital’s capacity and improve services, particularly in mental health care and emergency treatment. The site covers an area total of 7,100m² – the excavated volume is 10,500 cubic meters.
