The book ‘The Mystery of Signs’ has been officially published. This book, on the initiative of MaritimeMT, brought together the efforts of a number of entities that worked together on this educational project.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett thanked all those who contributed to the launch of this book which he described as an investment in our children and the next generation. “Although the book is aimed at the young, protecting our marine environment is everyone’s responsibility. The sea is one of the most beautiful treasures we have and therefore we have an obligation to also deliver a message about the sustainability and conservation of our oceans”, said Minister Bonett.
The book, which is aimed at teenagers between the ages of twelve and thirteen, concerns an adventure of two cousins who, together with their aunt, sail around the Mediterranean. The aim is that through this story, greater awareness is raised about the importance of the sea as a means of transport, a source of life and an opportunity for a better future.
Written by local teacher and author, Claudia Micallef, the book is being published in both Maltese and English to reach a wider audience in Maltese society. In a speech on the occasion, she explained that through her writing she wishes not only to raise interest in the blue economy but also to encourage children to consider the maritime sector as another important option in the opportunities offered by our country.
In comments given by MaritimeMT’s Chief Executive Officer, Pauline Micallef, she stressed that this initiative continues to demonstrate the importance of the role that Malta plays in the blue economy and how the maritime sector can contribute sustainably to the growth of the country’s economy.
