Volodymyr Zelenskyy has thrown a possible ceasefire deal onto the table by saying that if Ukrainian territory he controls could be taken “under the NATO umbrella, then such a deal might be acceptable.
The Ukrainian President speaking to Sky News said he might accept Russia holding onto Ukrainian territory it occupies, at least for the time being as part of a ceasefire deal.
He said such a move would only be possible if NATO took the land his forces controlled under its umbrella, giving him time and space to negotiate the return of the remaining territory at a later date.
