“This is a dream that is coming true and in the coming months and years from this place we will be seeing many more dreams of young people creating start-ups and SMEs coming true.” This was said by the Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, during the inauguration of DiHubMT.
DiHubMT, with an investment of €6.6 million co-financed by the European Union, will be offering not only a space from which start-ups and SMEs operate on innovative projects, but will be offering them all the necessary tools to carry out the products or their services. There are already 7 start ups, 6 of them Maltese, that are working from this location.
In DiHubMT, start-ups can make use of laboratories with 3D printing facilities, a creative space where animations are created, laboratories for the internet of things, a space for the metaverse, AR, VR and XR. This will lead to start-ups and SMEs being able to create their products and see if they are commercially viable. Later next year a high performance computer will also be here in this place, which will lead to research being done in a shorter time.
“This year’s budget had the theme towards a Quality Country. This is one of the main projects out of the 13 that I announced in the area of the economy that is giving high added value to our economy. This very week I announced that in collaboration with the University of Malta and the MDIA we will have a Competence Center for the semiconductor industry. The digital economy is the sector in which I believe we can excel, and these projects are proof of that. Since 2017, the digital economy has grown fourfold. All this is also linked to the vision we want for our country for the next 25 years, Vision Malta 2050”, said Minister Silvio Schembri.
CEO of MDIA, Kenneth Brincat said that, DiHubMT is a platform where innovative ideas are born, grow and become reality. “The primary goal of this project is to further increase the use of digital innovation because it is through these technological advances that we can continue to improve the quality of life for all of us.”
The Head of DiHubMt, Bernard Montebello said, “The services that DiHubMT is offering are designed based on what startups, SMEs and even entrepreneurs need in order to assist them in their digital journey. In this way, their ideas are given a push forward to finally materialize.”
DiHubMt is part of a European network of digital hubs, which is made up of 227 hubs in 30 different countries.
