Most of Malta’s news media are covering a report by Standards Commissioner into the hiring of Amanda Muscat as a consultant to the Ministries of Tourism and Gozo.
Prime Minister Robert Abela said he accepted an apology by Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo after the Standards Commissioner found the minister had breached ministerial ethics by employing his then partner Amanda Muscat as a consultant within the Tourism Ministry. Muscat was later hired as a policy consultant with the Ministry of Gozo with an increased salary.
The Commissioners report found that Muscat was not qualified for the post and that she failed to perform the functions of a consultant.
The report also reflected badly on Clinton Camilleri, the Minister for Gozo, for allowing Muscat’s employment as a consultant with the Gozo Ministry. Clinton Camilleri said he followed procedures laid down in the resourcing manual.
