Quality Country: Expanded mental health services at Dar il-Kantuniera in Gharb

The Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation Roderick Galdes and the Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri presided over the signing of an agreement through which the services offered by Dar il-Kantuniera in the Għarb were extended, Gozo in the field of mental health.

Through an agreement between the Housing Authority and the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, the same authority will be handing over to the said ministry, with a title of rent, this house which is leaving an important mark in the Gozitan community.

The Ministry for Gozo and Planning is also entering into an agreement with the Malta Trust Foundation to continue running this home in collaboration with the Mental Health Association Gozo.

Minister Roderick Galdes said: “When I witness an agreement like this, I see a living testimony of how much in practice we are carrying out a policy that looks at the holistic needs of the person; real needs that we encounter in everyday life. Through this collaboration we will reach more beneficiaries and continue to raise the quality of their lives and that of their relatives, which I know how much such services mean to them”.

Minister Clint Camilleri said: “Since this house opened its doors, back in 2021, a number of people have resorted to the services provided. As Government we understand that there is a need for these services and therefore we are committed to continue to strengthen and support these social services but more than that, we ensure that they are available to everyone. I thank all those involved, not only for making this possible, but more than that for the professional service that is being provided by this home, for the benefit of those who need it the most.”

The Chairperson of the Malta Trust Foundation Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca claimed that the Malta Trust Foundation has one goal, that of supporting those who need it the most. She thanked the ministers concerned and the respective entities that understood the need for this service and more than that, the importance that it continues to be given from the heart of the community to continue to strengthen the concept of being part of society.

 

Present for this signing was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Social and Affordable Accommodation Emanuel Psaila, the Permanent Secretary for Gozo and Planning John Borg, as well as representatives of the Housing Authority who all supported the -importance of this agreement; which is offering services that protect the holistic health of the person and inclusion.
