PN calls for ammendment to Anti-SLAPP law are “irrelevant” says Justice Ministry

Castille, Valletta. Seat of Prime Minister
Responding to calls by the Opposition Nationalist Party to ammend Anti-SLAPP law, the Justice Ministry said those proposals are “irrelevant”.
The Nationalist Party with an irrelevant motion on a directive that has already come into force Malta was the first country and is still the only country to transpose the Anti-SLAPP directive, a directive in which the Maltese government fully participated in the drafting discussions.
With the irrelevant motion that they want to bring forward, the Nationalist Party wants to postpone a law that is already in force regarding the Anti-SLAPP provision, to March next year. The government has already confirmed its intention to continue to publicly consult on themes that deal with the rest of the proposals that are not addressed in the directive and that are listed in the report of the Committee of Experts, however in the meantime it has already entered into – the directive took place to offer the level of protection agreed on a European level.
The government has also already confirmed its commitment so that now the implementation of the Anti-SLAPP has taken place, it is good that as a nation we look at other aspects that represent the whole society.
