Aer Lingus’ inaugural flight from Dublin to Malta touched down on Friday at Malta International Airport (MIA). Flight EI464 landing in Malta marked the start of an exciting new direct connecting the Irish capital to the Maltese Islands.
This new route will operate three times a week, offering seamless travel between the two destinations. The new service is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and cultural exchanges, positioning Malta as an accessible destination for both leisure and corporate travellers from Ireland and beyond.
H.E. Giovanni Buttigieg, Ambassador of Malta to the Republic of Ireland, commented: This route is the result of months of work by the Maltese authorities. Apart from contributing to tourism to our country, it is offering a wider choice to the Maltese community in Ireland and their families when visiting each other. The manufacturing industry should also benefit from the introduction of the garrison of goods between the two countries. The significance of this route is greater given that it is being introduced at the same time that airlines are having to reduce their flights from Dublin airport due to the capping for the number of passengers who can use the airport.
Carlo Micallef, Malta Tourism Authority CEO, stated that “we are delighted to have Aer Lingus join our growing list of airline partners, further enhancing Malta’s connectivity. This route not only strengthens our ties with Ireland but also opens new opportunities for improved connections to and from Northern Europe, as well as the US and Canada via Dublin’s transatlantic services. It’s a significant step forward in our efforts to expand Malta’s reach to long haul markets and a prime destination in the Mediterranean.”
“The new Aer Lingus route between Malta and Dublin falls perfectly as part of our plan to diversify and attract quality tourists all year round. Through this air route development we are not simply cementing the Irish market but this also shall serve as a transit gateway for our North American market which is seeing siginficant growth,” outlined Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness Clayton Bartolo.
