Prime Minister Robert Abela had a bilateral meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan on the sidelines of the MED9 Summit in Cyprus. In the meeting several themes were discussed including peace and security in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister stressed that Malta has a strong relationship with Jordan and reiterated that our country is grateful for the role that Jordan is taking to facilitate the talks for the de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East. He repeated Malta’s call for an immediate cessation of fighting in Lebanon and Gaza.
Dr. Abela said that Malta agrees that the European Union fully supports Jordan, as this country is offering shelter to a number of refugees who left the countries where the fighting is going on. He concluded by saying that he looks forward to further collaboration with Jordan on regional themes.
