The Government extended the initiative which allowed nurses who unfortunately become seriously ill, to be given more flexibility in relation to their work so that they can take care of their health while having more peace of mind. Prime Minister Robert Abela said this during another pre-Budget consultation meeting, with MUMN.
At Castille, the Prime Minister listed a number of initiatives and measures taken to further strengthen the conditions of workers in the field of health, particularly nurses and midwives. Prime Minister Robert Abela listened to the thoughts of the union then also claimed that the Government is continuing to work to improve services in the field of health, particularly in the community.
He also mentioned more flexible practices for nurses due to emergency situations that arise in their families. He said that other initiatives including MUMN’s suggestion about new nurses working with the contractor being given an intensive course in order to ensure quality in the service, are planned to continue to be introduced.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that the Government is continuing to work to increase the number of nurses working at Mater Dei Hospital. In fact, he announced that 40 new nurses have recently been added to the Emergency Department.
For the Government side, in the meeting with the Prime Minister there were the Ministers Clyde Caruana and Jo Etienne Abela, the Parliamentary Secretaries Andy Ellul and Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, the Government Deputies Deo Debattista and Romilda Zarb and the Head of the Secretariat in the Office of the Prime Minister Mark Mallia.
