Malta Maritime Summit is organized with the theme ‘The Voice of the Industry’

“Sustainability is not simply the environment. We want to ensure that the maritime sector in Malta remains resilient, competitive and equipped to cope with the responsibilities and obligations in an industry that is always evolving.” The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett said this while he was addressing the Malta Maritime Summit with the theme ‘The Voice of the Industry’.

The minister emphasized that this summit testifies to the confidence that the best stakeholders and foreign operators have to invest in our country. Statistically, our country ranked first in this sector in the EU and sixth from all over the world.

In a discussion held with international experts at the same summit, it was noted how climate change is not only putting pressure on the global interconnections of the maritime industry but also requires immediate action to safeguard economic and social sustainability . Our country is also employing 20,000 people in a sector that continues to grow and increase in importance not only at a national level but also at a European level.

“On our part, as a government we will continue to work for efficient legislative solutions in the sector by rewarding those who make use of the green economy in this ecological transition that is leading to the creation of new opportunities in innovation, research and more work opportunities in the maritime sector which is becoming more and more important,” reaffirmed Minister Chris Bonett.

He concluded by saying that in order to achieve this goal, in the coming time our country will be embarking on ambitious but practical measures that will balance the economic viability of the sector.
