Dr. Maris Camilleri was appointed Acting Chief Executive of the Maltese Language Center by the Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government, Owen Bonnici.
Dr Camilleri is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Essex, England, after having worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Languages and Linguistics of the same University, as a syntax lecturer at Queen Mary University, the England, and as a casual lecturer at the Linguistics Institute of the University of Malta.
She has carried out research work in the linguistic field in England, Austria and Malta, and has also provided linguistic consultancy services to the Maltese Language Center since the beginning of this year.
Dr Camilleri also has a number of publications in academic journals about the Maltese Language.
She will be taking up the post of Acting Chief Executive, replacing Mrs. Norma Saliba, who resigned from her role as Chief Executive of the Maltese Language Centre. The Ministry for National Heritage, Arts and Local Government will be entering into consultations with the National Council of the Maltese Language.
The Ministry thanks Mrs. Saliba for the extremely good work she did not only to set up the Maltese Language Centre, but also to carry out various projects and initiatives in favor of the protection and promotion of the Maltese language, with a special way among children, broadcasters and the public administration.
