On 1st October 2024, Commissioner Angelo Gafà, on behalf of the Malta Police , signed a collaborative agreement with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior, and six other police agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department (US), Arizona Department of Public Safety (US) and Peel Regional Police (Canada), providing for exchange programmes between the two countries, and the sharing of resources and best practices.
Previous signatories to this agreement included the Toronto Police Service (Canada) and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (US) .
The International Association of Chiefs of Police, the world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders, recognised these agencies, including the Malta Police Force, for demonstrating ongoing commitment to the professionalisation and advancement of global policing.
The signing of this agreement follows the participation of Maltese police officers in police training programmes held in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year. In February 2024, Police Inspector Raymond Joseph Azzopardi successfully completed a 5-month basic academy program for cadets at the Abu Dhabi Police College in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
