Recognizing the critical need to address the complex issues stemming from poverty and social exclusion, Government has developed this comprehensive Strategy that aspires to position Malta among the EU countries with the lowest rates of poverty or social exclusion by 2035. A range of targeted measures have been developed to tackle unique challenges and will lead to further enhancing access to essential services, strengthening support systems, and providing financial assistance to the most disadvantaged cohorts.
Through collaboration with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the new Strategy uses a strategic foresight approach to understand and anticipate future impacts of current trends.
Addressing the main stakeholders, Minister Michael Falzon highlighted that this strategy is a key step towards addressing poverty and social exclusion through a comprehensive, holistic, and forward-thinking approach. It envisions a future where community cohesion, empowerment, solidarity, and dignity are at the core of Malta’s societal well-being, ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to thrive amidst the country’s evolving socio-economic landscape.
Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback in relation to the National Strategy for Poverty Reduction and Social Inclusion 2025-2035 by 29 November 2024 by sending an email on info.pdiad.family@gov.mt . Cognisant of the fact that actions must be taken to actively include children’s voices, concerns and recommendations, the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights is inviting all children to submit their opinions through the Empowering Children App on https://empoweringchildren.gov.mt/ .
