Ing. Abigail Cutajar appointed as the first CEO of the Climate Action Authority

Ing. Abigail Cutajar has been appointed the first Chief Executive Officer of the Climate Action Authority (CAA), entrusted with driving climate action and sustainability initiatives forward.

The CAA, which will start functioning imminently, will coordinate and regulate climate action to ensure effective, economically efficient, and consistent efforts toward adaptation and mitigation. A board of directors will govern the CAA. A scientific council, comprised of key individuals who are experts in their own fields, will also serve as a consultative body to the Authority.

Ing. Cutajar is an engineer by profession with 13 years of specialised experience in energy efficiency, climate action, and sustainable development. She is also an accredited professional who worked as a Green Certification Consultant in Malta and abroad. Ing. Cutajar is the first local LEED-accredited professional and has held senior leadership positions, including Chief Sustainability Manager at QP Management and Head of Engineering at ProEnergy Solutions, where she demonstrated her ability to lead transformative sustainability projects.

Ing. Cutajar holds a Master of Science from the University of Malta and multiple certifications, including an Associate of Science from the U.S. Green Building Council and an accreditation from Economist Education in Climate Change Business: Sustainability, Risk, and the Push for Net Zero.

In recent years, Ing. Cutajar served as a technical adviser on energy and climate action within the Ministry for Energy.
