Extension of Telecare services: More help and security for the elderly

As part of the celebrations of the International Day of the Elderly, the first part of the electoral measure from the government’s electoral manifesto was launched to extend Telecare and Telecare on the Move services to more elderly people. The launch took place at the Active Aging Center of Ďamrun, which was recently renovated, and which also confirms the government’s commitment to the elderly continuing to live their lives with ‘ more reassuring.

From today, those people who are over 80 years old and make use of the Telecare service will be benefiting from this service for free, with ‘ a result of full subsidy from the government through Active Aging and Care in the Community. Likewise, those aged 60 and over who live alone and have a valid pink card or yellow card, which shows that they are diabetic, will continue to benefit from this free service. Seniors under the age of 80 who are not eligible for service b ‘ none will benefit from a partially subsidized service.

During his address, the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Aging Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said, “We are fulfilling part of another electoral promise that we made so that our seniors continue to live with ‘ independence and security. B ‘ this measure, more than €250,000 will remain in ‘ pockets of our elders”, said Agius Galea. He also recalled how the Telecare service offers not only peace of mind to the elderly but also to their relatives, who know that in case of emergency help is always close by.

Renzo Degabriele, Chief Executive of Active Aging and Care in the Community, stressed how this service will continue to improve the quality of life of the elderly and continue to ensure that they can continue to live their lives in the our communities with more peace of mind.

Stephanie Kent, Director of Active Aging and Community Care, also presented the different Telecare devices, explaining in detail how this service helps the elderly in ‘ case of emergency and how its use simplifies aid f ‘ moments of need.

The existing Telecare equipment will not change, and the service delivery will remain the same without the need for a new installation. In addition, in order to have more accessibility for more seniors, the service is now also available to all customers, regardless of which telecommunications company they subscribe to.
