As the preparations for the opera season are underway, the Ministry for Gozo and Planning has prepared a program related to this genre, spread over a whole month.
During a visit to the main theaters in Victoria City, Minister Clint Camilleri closely followed the work that goes on behind the scenes, so that the opera is staged in Gozo, year after year.
“Opera in Gozo is associated with beautiful scenery and costumes produced locally by many Gozitan artists, tailors and volunteers. A work that reflects the love and passion these volunteers have for this style of music. But not only that, we have prepared a whole month of activities related to opera as Gozo, and particularly the month of October, have established themselves as the operatic destination in our country,” Minister Camilleri said.
The main attractions linked to this year’s program are Il Trittico by Giacomo Puccini and Giovanna d’Arco by Giuseppe Verdi. Il Trittico will be staged at the Aurora Opera Theater on October 12, a trio of one-act operas. While Giovanna d’Arco will be performed at Teatru Astra on October 24 and 26, and will mark its return to audiences after more than 170 years, when it was performed for the first and last time in ‘Malta, at the Royal Opera House, in 1852.
