“With the facts we are keeping our word with the educators while we are also incentivizing an excellent education for our children so that they will be the ones who continue to move this country forward tomorrow.”

This was the main message of Prime Minister Robert Abela during another pre-Budget consultation meeting, this time with the MUT Teachers’ Union, in the Berġa of Castile.

In his introductory points before the consultation meeting between the two delegations continued, Prime Minister Robert Abela claimed that today our country is in a situation where it is creating quality jobs. Jobs that are immediately seizing the students in our country in the world of work.

Here Dr. Abela quoted Eurostat statistics where he noted that 96% of Maltese graduates find work in the first 3 years since completing their studies. However, the Prime Minister also noted how he wants to see more jobs being created that continue to be filled by Maltese students and therefore the importance of the sector being strongly supported by the Government.

In fact, the Prime Minister noted how a few weeks ago the best sectoral agreement ever given to educators was signed which includes a strong improvement in the income and conditions of educators among many others.

It was here that Dr. Abela announced how from the October pay, the income will be including the pay adjustments to reflect what was signed in this best sectoral agreement.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also referred to the news of the previous day which positively affected parents who send their children to independent schools as the Government will be investing €27 million to ensure that parents do not experience abnormal increases due to the sectoral agreement that was signed for State and Church schools.

Before ending his address, the Prime Minister thanked the same union for its involvement in the extensive negotiations that were in favor of the best agreement ever signed for educators and called for more goodwill on the way to forward so that the educators and students of our country always remain at the center in favor of a wonderful future for our children.

Together with the Prime Minister for this consultation meeting there were the Ministers Clyde Caruana and Clifton Grima, the Parliamentary Secretaries Andy Ellul, Rebecca Buttigieg and Keith Azzopardi Tanti, the Members of Parliament Rosianne Cutajar and Amanda Spiteri Grech and the -Head of the Secretariat of the Office of the Prime Minister Mark Mallia.
