Verbal process of the magisterial inquiry regarding the case of Stephen Mangion at Mater Dei Hospital published

On Monday 9 September 2024 the Inquiring Magistrate, Dr Joseph Mifsud, closed the inquiry into the death of Stephen Mangion at Mater Dei Hospital, which took place on 27 August 2024.

The inquiring Magistrate ordered that a copy of the verbal process be sent to the Minister for Health and Active Ageing, to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Health and Aging Active and to the Commissioner of Police, the Magistrate also recommended that the verbal process should be published due to the “public alarm” that was created regarding a number of allegations that there were regarding what happened in the case.

This is so that the public to be informed of what really happened.

The Ministry for Health and Active Aging, through the Office of the Permanent Secretary, has determined it is in the public interest even after some details from the verbal process were revealed in the media, to publish, without comments, the verbal process in its entirety, except for the personal details of the witnesses.
