21-man squad named for Malta’s U21 UEFA qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Scotland

Malta U21 coach Ivan Woods has announced his 21-man squad ahead of the upcoming UEFA European U21 Championship Qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Scotland.

The encounter against Kazakhstan will be held on Thursday 5th September at the Stadïon Akademïï T.S.Segïzbaeva in Almaty (KAZ), while the following game against Scotland will played at home on Tuesday 10th September at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium.

The squad sees the return of Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder Dylan Scicluna, who missed out on the two friendlies against Belarus last June.

One notable addition is Isaiah Chukunyere, whose impressive performances for Hibernians FC at the start of this season have been rewarded with a call-up to the U21 squad. He has featured in all three games for Hibs so far this season, and has even got a goal to his name, despite being only 19.

Central Defenders – Matthew Ellul (Hibernians FC), Owen Spiteri (Floriana FC), Sven Xerri (Ħamrun Spartans FC), Zean Leonardi (Pieta’ Hotspurs FC), Deacon Abela (Swieqi United FC), Jake Micallef (Żabbar St. Patrick FC).

Midfielders – Aleandro Garzia (Floriana FC), Karl Mohnani (Melita FC), Nikolai Micallef (Naxxar Lions FC), Kurt Bondin (Melita FC), Andrew Borg (Gżira United FC), Dylan Scicluna (Western Sydney Wanderers FC – AUS), Matthew Debattista (Melita FC), Daniel Letherby (Ħamrun Spartans FC).
