The Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, through the Infrastructure Malta agency, continues with the project for the reorganization of the infrastructure around five junctions with the aim of improving the flow of traffic in the area Tal-Barrani, in Tarxien and Bulebel.
In a visit to the work site, engineers from Infrastructure Malta explained that the work will now be focused on Triq San Anard/Triq il-Gudja, with this road will be rebuilt, with the project expected to see addition of half an acre (500sqm) of landscaping throughout the project. For this purpose, a new temporary traffic plan will be announced which will come into effect from September 3 until the beginning of the school year.
Accordingly, vehicles driven in the direction from Żabbar/Fgura to Ħal Tarxien/Marsa must pass through Triq Ħal Tarxien, continue through Triq tal-Ħotba and turn to their right. Vehicles driven from Żabbar/Fgura towards Żejtun/Birżebbuġa, must pass through Triq tal-Hotba and turn left. Vehicles driven from Tarxien/Marsa towards Fgura/Żabbar will continue to pass through Triq San Anard/Triq il Gudja.
In the last few days, the rebuilding works of Tarxien Street have been completed, which will include a lane dedicated to bicycles. Other works carried out include a new drainage system that extends between Triq tal-Hotba towards Triq San Anard; placement of telecommunication services and reconstruction of a sidewalk between Triq tal-Hotba and Triq San Anard. There was also placement of services and construction of a sidewalk in Tarxien Street; the reconstruction of Triq tal-Hotba, including the installation of telecommunication services, water services and new electricity distribution. A new sidewalk and new planters along the entire road were also made here.
In the service road in Tal-Barrani (near the old people’s home), excavation and foundation work was also done as well as the frame on a new wall was completed to form a third lane in the direction from Tarxien town to Bulebel.
Minister Chris Bonett explained how this project is taking place with the aim of a better organization of this area in order to better facilitate the journey of drivers, cyclists and anyone who uses this road from the south of Malta.
“Upon its completion, the project will see the introduction of a new system of traffic lights that are integrated with each other with the aim of making traffic management more effective. These will also include new pedestrian crossing points for those who frequent the area at a pace that will make the area safer for those who use them,” said Minister Bonett.
For this project, discussions were also held with Public Transport regarding the permanent route after the completion of the project, including more accessible bus stops.
