28 people were found to be living in the country irregularly during police inspections in public spaces and shops as well as private residences in Ħamrun.
The shops were also checked for any abuse of labour or trade laws and rules.
Those detained were taken to a detention centre, pending the necessary preparations for their return to their country of origin or to the country in which they are permitted to reside.
The Police carried out the inspections together with officials from the Detention Services Agency and the enforcement section of the Malta tax and Customs Administration.
