Hibernians got their opening game of the new season off to good start with a hard fought 2-1 win against Naxxar.
It was the visitors who found the net first when referee Daniel Portelli spotted an infringement inside the box from a Westherly c’orner. The Brazilian himself stepped up and fired past Saco to put Naxxar in front.
Naxxar should have made it 2-0 when Frederico got clear in the box and fired his shot wide.
Just after the half hour, Bruno’s close range effort levelled the score for Hibernians.
Naxxar almost hit back straight away when Jackson raced forward and won a corner. Pedro Vitor in the box had an open goal at his mercy but somehow managed to fire wide.
At the other end Hibs keeper Sacco released Bruno whose first time cross into the box failed to find any takers.
1-1 at the break and a game that could go either way.
Hibs were fired up as the game restarted and from a Degabriele corner, Falcone’s touch was just over.
Hibernians took the lead early in the second half when Bruno picked out Degabriele who tapped home to make it 2-1.
Degarbriele later had to be substituted after taking a knock.
As a very hot humid evening took its toll on players, tempers flared in a fiercely contested game but Hibs defended in numbers to claim the three points.
