The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri visited the last preparations in connection with the annual exhibition of Agriculture and Crafts, or as it is better known, the Santa Maria Exhibition.
The exhibition will be held in the public gardens of Villa Rundle in Victoria and will open to the public on Tuesday, August 13 and close on Thursday, August 15 after the awards are presented.
Minister Camilleri recalled how this exhibition is now approaching the 170th anniversary since it was first held. It was back in the year 1855, when the Società Agricola e Industriale was founded in Gozo, whose office was at No. 33, Strada Pietà (today Triq Mons. Įuseppe Farrugia), Victoria. On that day, the first agricultural exhibition was held at the Government primary school, in Triq il-Vajrinġa.
The Minister said that this exhibition brings to the public greater knowledge of the fresh and genuine products of Gozitan farmers and villagers. He listed the various sections that will be exhibited in this exhibition, which is the showcase of the island of Goztija, because in it the farmer and the villagers exhibit their best products.
In fact, the exhibition will consist of several sections that show the typical Gozitan product ranging from animals, vegetables, cereals, and even other craft products. Every year this exhibition attracts a large number of exhibitors as well as people who visit it. Minister Camilleri reiterated the commitment of the Ministry for Gozo to continue supporting this activity, also because it is the best advertisement for the Gozitan product.
For another year, entry to the exhibition will be free.
