The Minister for Health and Active Aging, Jo Etienne Abela announced that through an investment of one million euros in equipment and advanced technology, this week, a new SPECT service was launched at Mater Dei Hospital- CT Scanning. This new service will be complementing the range of specialized services that the Department of Radiology offers at Mater Dei Hospital.
The minister explained that this advanced technology helps specialists to locate conditions and diseases with more precision, and thus be able to make a clear and detailed diagnosis that leads to specialized and timely treatment. Minister Jo Etienne Abela reiterated that it is planned that this technology will be used in various fields, including orthopaedics, endocrinology, pulmonology, cardiology and as far as cancer diseases are concerned.
“This investment continues to spur the government’s vision that Mater Dei Hospital continues to focus and develop its potential as a center of excellence in secondary and tertiary health. I thank all the employees from the administrative and technical fields who prepared this project in a short time,” concluded the minister.
Dr. Andrew Mallia, Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician, pointed out the importance of this innovative service and stressed the benefits that patients will enjoy in this regard thanks to the advanced technology that will lead to more accurate results and specialized care.
