With this week’s salary, educators will begin to benefit from the financial package of the new Sectoral Agreement that was signed between the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation and the Teachers’ Union (MUT).
The sectoral agreement, which includes a strong improvement in the income and conditions of educators working in public schools, those of the church and LSEs of independent schools, is a reflection of the Government’s promise that the educators should have a significant improvement in their conditions.
Thus today they have the best agreement ever signed for educators.
With this salary, all those who fall under this agreement will get a one-time payment amounting to €1,000.
The teachers who fulfill their duties in the Primary sector will receive the allowance of €1,000 per year back-dated from 1 January 2023 and pro-rata for this year. Afterwards, this allowance will start to be given monthly.
With this salary will also be given:
· the First Aider allowance, the amount of which will be adjusted according to the sectoral agreement retroactively from 1 January 2023 and pro-rata for this year. Afterwards, this allowance will start to be given monthly;
· the Special Education Program (SEP) allowance whose amount will also be adjusted according to the sectoral agreement in arrears from 1 January 2023 and pro-rata for this year. Afterwards, this allowance will start to be given monthly;
· the Shared allowance whose amount will also be adjusted according to the sectoral agreement in arrears from 1 January 2023 and pro-rata for this year. Afterwards, this allowance will start to be given monthly;
· the MAVC full-time educators will also receive €1,000 according to the sectoral agreement in arrears from 1 January 2023 and pro-rata for this year. Afterwards, this allowance will start to be given monthly.
With this salary, the educators will also have included notes and information explaining the changes and what they are benefiting from in this salary.
The Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima reiterated that this sectoral agreement will mean a strong improvement in the income and conditions of educators. “This agreement contains salary increases for all grades of educators. It is an agreement for five years and it will start counting with arrears from the beginning of last year until the end of 2027”, said Minister Grima.
“The agreement does not only include a significant improvement in the financial package, but also in working conditions and career advancement at a faster pace. All this will continue to strengthen the professional development of the educators”, repeated Minister Grima, while again thanking all the educators for the invaluable work they are doing in an educational system that is putting the person at the center.
