In a conference hosted by the Local Government Division, the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli announced that after a ‘Training Needs Analysis’ of the Local Government area was carried out, training was drawn up that will be given to the elected and administrative members of the Local Councils, such as Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Councilors and Executive Secretaries, in order to further strengthen this area.
The continuous training for the elected and administrative members, which is directly related to the role of the individual, is a main objective in the National Strategic Vision for Local Government.
The Parliamentary Secretary went on to explain that through the Training Needs Analysis certain skills and knowledge were identified that require more training and thus a training was designed that will help those who attend in their work within the Local Councils. She stressed that this training, while it will continue to complement and improve the skills of the workers, will continue to raise the level of service provided by the Local Councils.
“The implementation of good governance principles are not only important for the members of the local councils in order to be helpful in the management of the councils and in the work of the localities, but finally translated into a quality of a better life for the residents in our localities,” concluded the Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli, while wishing that this training would be a tool for all those in the leadership of the Local and Regional Councils.
This conference was also addressed by Robert Tabone and the Director General of the Local Councils Division, Emil Vassallo.
