The Minister for Lands and Implementation of the Electoral Program Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli presided over the signing of a devolution agreement between the Lands Authority and the Council Local Xgjaira.
Thanks to this agreement, a Government building where the Local Council is currently managing which is located in Batterija known as Grazzja, as well as a workshop and a space where maintenance work is done by the Council’s workers, will pass formally in the hands of the Xgjaira Local Council.
Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said that it is encouraging to see Local Councils insist and work to continue improving their services for residents. “It is precisely for this reason that as we are doing in various localities, thanks also to the Lands Authority, we felt that it is appropriate that this site also passes into the hands of the Xgjaira Local Council,” repeated the Minister .
He went on to explain that even the Xgajra Local Council will be benefiting from the capping scheme on the annual land lease of only €500 per year. “I hope that this agreement will lead to this building continuing to be utilized in the best possible way always for the benefit of the residents of this locality,” concluded Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi.
The Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli welcomed this transfer of the administrative offices of the Xgħajra Local Council. She said that this is of great importance for a Local Council that is the owner of the same building from which it is operating.
“In order to continue assisting the Local Councils in their work, in the last months we have seen a number of land transfers in various localities. Through these transfers the Local Councils are in a position to operate better and even carry out various projects on these lands, which will eventually benefit the respective community,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.
The Mayor of Xgajra Neil Attard said that through the agreement that was signed, the Local Council will be able to improve services to the community of Xgajra and the public that visits this locality.
