The director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, has resigned, twenty four hours after a brutal grilling by members of Congress where she admitted the assassination attempt of Donald Trump was the biggest failing in decades of the Secret Service.

“The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13th, we failed,” she told the Committee.

Members of the Committee, both Republicans and Democrats, asked her if she considered resigning. Her response was that “I think I am the best person to lead the Secret Service at this time.”
