Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia with artist Rune Bo Jakobsen

The commitment of the government in the beautification of public spaces in the communities in Malta continues through an installation of ‘Embryonic Horse’ by the artist Rune Bo Jakobsen in Floriana, as part of the Art in Spaces program Public, organized by the Department of Public Works.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia said that so far more than half a million euros have been invested in this program which is in its third edition.

“This program aims to increase access to the arts by fostering strong collaboration between artists and communities, while providing platforms for artists to display innovative and creative works in public spaces. Therefore I look forward so that more artists apply to collaborate with the Department of Public Works in the next edition,” concluded the parliamentary secretary.

The art that was inaugurated in the presence of the artist Rune Bo Jakobsen is part of the program that covers the period 2022-2024. The artist said that he is satisfied with the opportunity, where the creativity and talent of artists like him are being given a public space to be exhibited. The same artist had another installation in the previous Arti Fi Spazi Pubblici program with the theme: ‘The Olive Twist’, and which had been installed in Żejtun.

The theme of this installation ‘Embryonic Horse’ has an important significance for the area, where the artist managed to create the experience of the horse’s life over time, particularly the one that is linked to the Tower of the old Water of Wignacourt where the horses used to drink. This installation shows a bronze horse playing for the shelter of trees while it is cradled on its back. The next edition of Art in Public Spaces will cover the years between 2025 and 2027.

The Floriana Local Council was also present for the inauguration.
