President Joe Biden has announced that he will not seek re-election in November.
In a statement on Sunday afternoon, local time, he said it was the “greatest honour” to serve but his withdrawal was “in the best interest of my party and the country”.
President Biden immediately named Vice-President Kamala Harris as his choice to succeed him as the Democratic candidate.
