Prime Minister Robert Abela at a European Political Community Meeting held in the United Kingdom

Prime Minister Robert Abela attended the fourth European Political Community Meeting held at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. This meeting was attended by over 47 European leaders and various themes such as energy and connectivity, Ukraine and immigration were discussed.

When he was addressing a Working Group on immigration, Dr. Abela mentioned the visit he had in Libya in the past days and talked about different realities related to immigration. The Maltese Prime Minister said that there are different solutions for common challenges. Here he mentioned the importance of investment in countries of origin and transit.

In comments after the Summit, Dr. Abela said that regarding investment in countries from which immigrants leave there was convergence, an aspect that Malta has consistently been talking about. In fact the Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the investment in the country of origin is what can give a lasting solution as it prevents families from leaving their country, because the country is offering them an opportunity. He continued to stress the need to have an investment plan in Africa at a European level, so that the families who live there do not have the need to move to other continents.

In the margins of this Summit, Prime Minister Robert Abela also had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of State of Monaco Pierre Dartout.
