New ward to take 40 patients opened at Mater Dei Hospital

The Minister for Health and Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela inaugurated a new ward in Mater Dei which will welcome 40 patients. The work on the M10 hall was carried out with an investment of €1.4 million and around €140,000 in medical equipment. It was explained how the construction of this new ward required a lot of work as this place was not previously a clinical one.
Among the works carried out was the building of new walls, a treatment room and new toilets and showers for patients. Changes were also made to the electrical and mechanical system such as ventilation, air conditioning, water, and lighting. This is in order to fulfill the new function of the area as a ward that provides care to patients. Additional systems were also added such as the nurse call system, the pneumatic tube system, and medical gases.
Minister Abela explained how through investment that the Ministry made in infrastructural works and in engineering as well as investment in medical equipment, this ward is now welcoming patients and providing a medical service. He said, how the back part of this hall is intended to become a ‘Medical High Dependency Unit’ where a number of professionals who will be taking care of patients with serious illnesses are already being given training. “Through this investment that started at the end of last year, today we are seeing a place that was not a clinic, it has been changed to a clinic with a ward equipped with everything that can serve the patient. This continues with the vision that the Government has to continue strengthening health care in our country”, concluded Minister Jo Etienne Abela.
