70 employees of the Department for Public Works successfully completed specialized training on safety during the performance of their duties

Seventy workers who participated successfully in training organized by the Occupational Health & Safety Unit within the Department of Public Works, were presented today with the certificates obtained in the First Aid courses, as well as in a specialized course on how to safely operate a Mobile Elevated Work Platform.
The Occupational Health & Safety Unit is constantly committed to enhancing the knowledge of all workers within the Department in order to ensure that the health and safety of the workers themselves as well as those around them is protected. Therefore these two courses are part of a series of other specialized courses on workplace safety.
 
Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia stressed the importance of workers’ participation in the training that is regularly carried out by the Department. He claimed that the investment should not stop only with the machinery but safety at the workplace should be a priority.
“Immensely satisfied to see that the Department is proactive so that our workers are given all the opportunities to work safely and in a safe environment. Therefore I look forward to continue strengthening this unit and ensure that we ourselves create the opportunities for our workers to improve their skills,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Farrugia.
Also speaking was Marfred Bugeja, Principal Health and Safety Officer within the Department of Public Works, who announced that later this year courses will be held in the use of machinery called heavy plant which includes: diggers, excavators and dumpers among the others, as well as explaining that there is also the intention to organize courses on fire fighting and fire wardens.
