Prime Minister Robert Abela says public spaces cannot be recklessly blocked by tables and chairs.

“The business community must understand that this is not a witch hunt against them, on the contrary, it is a question of restoring the balance between the right of the business to operate and earn its legitimate profits and the right of citizens to be walk on a street. If you have a baby and you have a pushchair, what do you mean you can’t pass because there is an excess of tables and chairs. So with concrete action such as what happened in St. George Square the people will be able to judge us because they will be seeing that exercise extending to other localities.
