The Minister for Health and Active Aging in meetings with the WHO in Denmark

In Denmark, the Minister for Health and Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela had meetings with the Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Hans Kluge and the Directors of his Executive Council. During these meetings many collaboration themes were discussed including: mental health care; Non-Communicable Diseases; Digital Health; active aging, palliative care and long-term care.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela mentioned how in the last weeks our country launched a reform for mental health care, as well as launching a public consultation on non-communicable diseases. Regarding the care of the elderly, Minister Abela explained how in recent years our country has made a big leap in this regard, where a number of services have been introduced in the community, both clinical ones and new centers during the -day. He also mentioned the work being done on the implementation of the National Strategy for Dementia and the National Strategy for Active Aging.
“In the health sector Malta is working to not only be in line with the vision of the WHO but we are also looking to be pioneers so that other countries, as has already been done in the past, follow in the footsteps of our country in “certain areas in health care”, concluded Minister Abela.
Regional Director, Dr. Hans Kluge praised the work carried out by Malta in the health sector, in particular the help and support that our country is offering to the victims affected in Gaza. Dr. Hans Kluge pointed out that the vision that Malta has for the health sector is in line with the vision that the WHO is seeing to be implemented in the countries of the European region.
