England need to produce against Slovakia to reach last eight of Euro 24

England manager Gareth Southgate

Billed as pre-tournament favourites, England have failed to sparkle in their opening three group matches.

Tonight they must produce the kind of attacking football their fans and the country demand.

When they line-up tonight against Slovakia, they know there will be no place to hide. No stumbling over the line to live another day. This is knock-out football. Simple. Lose and you go home.

England has talent in abundance. The problem is finding how to make that talent gel and score goals. Something England has found hard to come by in the group games. A powerful header from Jude Bellingham in the opening game hinted at what might come. That proved to be England’s only bright moment. They failed to find the net again. Tonight the shackles must come off. England need to show the flair and attacking prowess so often seen in the Premier League.
