At the beginning of an Informal Meeting for European Leaders in Brussels, in which discussions began for the future leadership of the European Union, Prime Minister Robert Abela spoke about a Europe that addresses the priorities of all citizens of the Union European.
In this meeting the European Leaders began to discuss the next institutional cycle after the European Parliament elections. In fact the discussion, which is expected to continue to develop in another meeting of the European Council towards the end of next week, revolved around who will occupy the highest positions in the European Union including the appointment of President of the European Council and the nomination of a President of the European Commission.
In comments to the media at the beginning of this meeting of the European Council, Prime Minister Robert Abela not only meant the importance of the meeting but noted that even though the Leaders belong to different political groups, he should there will be an open discussion about the values for which the European Union was created. “I believe that even the European Union of tomorrow should be the one that continues to represent important values such as that of the social”, emphasized Dr. Abela. He said that in the meeting there should be an analysis of the European elections and the messages sent by the European peoples, including the Maltese, who, although he has given confidence to the Maltese Government, wants his priorities to be better addressed. Here he mentioned that all this is being done in a context of challenges that remain current in Europe which is seeing two wars on the doorstep and the challenge of inflation, which must continue to be addressed.
The Prime Minister said that Malta is a proud Member State in the European Union that must continue to push other important values such as those in favor of justice and governance together with other principles such as that of the Single Market, which works equally for everyone including access to medicines, including for countries like Malta, whose geographical situation makes it on the periphery of Europe.
