A new exhibition related to the maritime sector was inaugurated in Esplora, using new technologies

At Esplora, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti together with Professor Alan Deidun, on behalf of the University of Malta, inaugurated a new exhibition that using technologies new ones, among them holograms, will be showing the life under the sea in an interactive way and to help the children to better imagine the maritime sector.

The main objective of this project is to expand the use of technology in the marine field, in areas rich in biodiversity, especially for the purposes of environmental education, known as ocean literacy, which leads to more students continue their studies in this field of research and even more information is given about species and protected environments in Natura 2000 areas.

It was explained that for this exhibition innovative and interactive technology is being used, such as virtual reality, robots and holograms, which are helping to educate children and give a clear picture of the maritime sector.

Parliamentary Secretary Kieth Azzopardi Tanti explained how the use of technology in the maritime sector is one of the pillars of the national Smart Specialization strategy. “The exhibition we launched today is just the beginning as this exhibition will continue to grow to complement the interactive experience that is here inside the Esplora from a maritime perspective,” the parliamentary secretary said.

The Head of Esplora Olaf Mc Kay mentioned how this exhibition, which includes a hologram of whales and an interactive robot, will also be enhancing the experience of visitors at Esplora. “This initiative clearly shows that collective efforts are being made in our country so that the science and technology sector continues to move forward. We are satisfied that we have this new permanent exhibition that deals with Maltese maritime research and we look forward to more initiatives like today to continue to convey science in the most interesting and interactive way.”

Professor Alan Deidun, lecturer at the University of Malta and the Maltese Ambassador for the Ocean, reiterated “Thanks to this permanent space provided by Esplora, one can dive into the underwater world through -virtual and interactive technology.”

Rector of the University of Malta, Professor Alfred Vella, said “I am satisfied that Esplora has recognized the importance of entering into research collaborations with the University, such as the one announced today. ”
