The Western Regional Council prepared a booklet with a program of activities organized by the local councils within the same region. This was launched during a news conference by the Parliamentary Secretary of Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli and by the President of the Western Regional Council Sandro Azzopardi at the Oratory of Saint Joseph in Victoria. It was also announced that the Western Regional Council financed a number of activities related to Holy Week that will be organized by the local councils within it.
The parliamentary secretary praised the initiative of the Western region which recognized that it supports the local councils within it in order to continue organizing cultural activities linked to Holy Week. She explained the importance of continuing to support the cultural and religious traditions that are an integral part of the Maltese identity, so that they continue to be passed down through the generations.
“The religious activities linked to Holy Week are not only important for the support of culture, but through them enthusiasts, volunteers and artists have the opportunity to exhibit their work that they do with so much dedication and care,” emphasized the Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.
The activities in the program will be staged over a period of three weeks, with the first activity to be staged on the 15th of March in Žebbuġ and the last activity to be staged on the 7th of April, an activity organized by the parish of Kirkop.
For his part, the President of the Western Regional Council Sandro Azzopardi said that the main objective behind the publication of this booklet was for the public to be well informed of everything that is happening in -cities and towns in the Western Region. He explained that through this booklet one will be able to program where he can go and have detailed information on each activity. Mr. Azzopardi also said that the thought of launching the booklet from the Rabat locality was because the first Good Friday procession had taken place right in the Rabat locality.
The Mayor of Rabat, Sandro Craus said that this program of activities will continue to complement the niche of religious tourism in the locality of Rabat.
