Gzira United moved back in third place as they returned to winning ways after four consecutive defeats, beating Balzan 2-0 in a direct clash at the National Stadium on Saturday.
With one match to go, the Maroons enjoy a two-point lead over Balzan, Hibernians and Mosta. In their final match, Gzira take on Zebbug Rangers, Balzan face Birkirkara, Hibernians take on Floriana and Mosta meet Santa Lucia.
The Maroons took the lead on the 33rd minute thanks to Jefferson de Assis whose low shot was not held by goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.
Five minutes in the second half, Gzira doubled the score when off a cross by Marcelo Dias from the right, Jefferson left the ball for Toni Kolega to slot the ball past Debono from close range.
