Esplora Interactive Science Centre has opened its doors to ‘Journey to Space’, an event whereby the science centre has been transformed into a hub for all things extra-terrestrial: satellites, astronauts, lunar rovers, space shuttles and so much more. The event is taking place between the 11th and the 16th of April from 10am till 5pm.
These details were announced during a press conference by Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti, whereby he explained that through this activity they are continuing to promote Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, more commonly known as STEM education.
This event will also help in bridging the gap between science and society, whereby visitors will be able to engage in interactive exhibits as well as meet and interact with a number of local space science researchers.
“We are continuing to invest in STEM education with the aim of continuing to raise awareness whilst encouraging more children from a young age to choose these subjects. The government is committed to further invest in research, particularly in spatial activities to regularise the sector,” stated Parliamentary Secretary Azzopardi Tanti. He continued that work is currently underway for the drafting of a new law on space activities.
Chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology Dr Tonio Portughese stated, “We are offering this exciting opportunity to our visitors, to spend their Easter holidays with a difference by visiting outer space here at Esplora. Our aim is to create a lasting positive memory for families who visit the science centre whilst exposing them to the world of space sciences and encouraging their interests in this field of STEM.”
Esplora’s Senior Director Olaf Mckay said that, through this event, they are continuing to increase awareness of opportunities for space research in Malta and provide inspiration for future generations of scientists. He said that at Esplora they are committed to continue to showcase science as engaging in order to achieve the ultimate goal to create a culture of scientific curiosity and creativity.
