GWU welcomes with satisfaction the news that Malta has the largest increase in the number of people working in the EU

The General Workers’ Union welcomed positively the fact that Malta has the largest increase in the EU in the number of people working and is among the biggest economic growth in the Euro zone – this was announced by the office of the EU statistics, Eurostat.

In a statement the General Secretary of the GWU Josef Bugeja said: “I am satisfied with the fact that we are seeing that Malta recorded the greatest growth in the number of people working among all the countries of the European Union, when compared to the previous three months.

“Despite the fact that as a country we also have our challenges, at the same time we are still seeing that the our economy is continuing its strong recovery including in the manufacturing sector, aviation, services and in tourism.”

He said that one of the challenges is precisely the educational process of our country that must guarantee the continuous education and updates for the workers we have today and will need tomorrow, lifelong continuous education as in today’s world of work quality is crucial so that our country remains competitive and increases wealth.

“We believe and do our best so that as social partners we work in synergy together with the Government to continue giving more peace of mind to the workers and their families,” concluded the Secretary General..
