Minister Dalli reaffirms governments commitment to open spaces

The Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli visited the activity “Wirt in-Natura” which took place on Sunday afternoon in the garden of the Bride of Mosta. There she met many families with children receiving education in relation to sustainable practices. Through this activity for the family, these entities raised awareness on various environmental themes, such as the climate emergency, sustainability, biodiversity conservation, waste management, marine life and the responsible use of energy and water.

Among others, Ambjent Malta presented practices on how to take care of trees and plants. A treasure hunt and crafts workshops were organized for the children. On the other hand Parks Malta invited the public to learn more about how to grow aromatic herbs with a sustainable concept, which includes the reuse of plastic bottles which then take care of watering the same plants . Another attraction was that of the boat and the valley, where the children could build a boat using paper to then be thrown into the water in the same water model. With this attraction, the children could better understand how waste can end up in the sea and how it can be harmful to marine life.

The Authority for the Environment and Resources (ERA) prepared a snakes and ladders game, where it gave the children the opportunity to, while playing, also learn about environmental themes. The Energy and Water Agency focused on the conservation and efficiency of water at home and at the workplace, through a puppet show for children and experiments on how not to waste the water For this activity the popular mascots of WasteServ, General Buzz, Commander Yellow and Garbage Monster joined, where they hung out with the children and families who attended this activity, while promoting waste separation and recycling.

In the Mosta’s Bride garden, Minister Miriam Dalli explained how the government is working on the need for more open spaces. She reminded that in the Budget for next year the government recommitted itself to invest €700 million in environmental projects for more gardens and parks around Malta and Gozo in the next seven years. Miriam Dalli explained how the works have already started from the biggest environmental investment in history, where this will continue through a new agency. This agency will be seeing more collaboration with local councils and other entities for the introduction of more green spaces in all localities, while rehabilitating existing gardens with more trees and innovative and sustainable technology. .

“We will continue to organize more activities for the whole family so that they can spend more time together in the various gardens and parks in Malta, while learning more about the environment”, concluded Minister Dalli.
