Valletta prove too strong for Pieta’ Hotspurs

Valletta registered their first win as they found no difficulty in beating newly-promoted Pieta’ Hotspurs 6-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

The Citizens, therefore, join Gzira and Gudja on the four-point mark while Pieta’ suffer their second defeat.

The Hotspurs had two changes from the team which lost to Floriana as Clinton Bangura and Yuto Morita were preferred to Alan Schembri Wismayer and Yuto Morita while Eslit Sala was named in the starting line-up for Valletta.

Valletta took the lead on the half hour when Brandon Paiber concluded a good run on the right and served Kilian Bevis who beat substitute goalkeeper Reeves Cini with a diagonal shot from the right.

Five minutes from the end of the first half, the Citizens doubled the score when they were awarded a penalty after Samuel Okoh brought Enmy Pena Beltre down inside the area and from the penalty spot, Shaun Dimech converted.

Four minutes in added time, Valletta scored the third goal when Shaun Dimech served Oke Akpoveta and the latter controlled before hitting low past Cini from close range.

Valletta maintained the pressure and one minute in the second half, increased the lead when a pass by Akpoveta was deflected by Ganiu Ogungbe and the ball went in the direction of Enmy Pena Beltre who hit home past Cini with a shot from the edge of the area.

Eslit Sala made it 5-0 on the 55th with a fine effort from the left, when served by Akpoveta outside the area, which gave Cini no chance after the Pieta’ custodian had saved partially a Kilian Bevis effort.

On the hour, Valletta were awarded a penalty after Ganiu Ogungbe brought substitute Ulrich N’Nomo down inside the area and from the penalty spot, the French striker converted.
