Through this initiative, Explora together with collaborators will offer science shows and storytelling sessions, dance and theater, short films, science busking and many other activities. This will allow all attendees to better appreciate science and how much fun it can be when you experience it.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti praised this initiative which will lead to science reaching all Maltese and Gozitan families. He added that, “I want to see a society that no longer ranks the field of research and innovation with researchers only. Each and every one of us, children and the elderly, make use of science in our daily lives. ”
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the collaboration of the STEM Engagement Working Group with Explora, to enable this activity to be held in the heart of the Cottonera community. “Apart from the beauty of the educational element of this festival, such activities create a sense of community and give life to our localities, especially after almost two years due to the pandemic,” said the Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.
The Executive Chairman of the Malta Council for Science and Technology Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando stated that the main aim of the Explora Center is to drive the strengthening of knowledge, education and methods to encourage community participation in all areas of science. He went on to say that these areas, over time, are becoming more important and necessary. “Today we are announcing ‘Experimenta Tikka Xientzia’, the first of a series of festivals that are planned to be held in the Cottonera and Kalkara area,” reiterated Dr Pullicino Orlando.
During this festival there will also be an exhibition of wooden games, which will be in Malta from Barcelona under the name of Xics del Xurrac. This exhibition, the day after the festival – on Sunday 24 July – will also be held at the Hospital Square in Żebbuġ between 4pm and 9pm.
The ‘Experiment Tick Science’ festival will be held in collaboration between the Explora and the STEM Engagement Working Group.
