Consultation meeting between the government and the social partners on the 2022 Budget

Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister Carmelo Abela and Minister for Finance and Employment Clyde Caruana discuss with social partners their proposals for Budget 2022, during an MCESD meeting

In preparation for the 2022 Budget which, as announced by the Prime Minister, will take place on Monday, 11 October 2021, the social partners together presented their proposals to the government.

During their presentation, the social partners objectively set out the priorities of industry, unions and civil society.

In his address, Minister Abela said that despite various challenges, most notably the global pandemic, the government continues to be optimistic and positive for the future of this country.

Minister Abela stressed the ambition of this government, that we will continue to build on the good we have built in recent years – so the budget thinking for next year will remain. ‘one that incentivizes economic growth, so that wealth continues to be distributed fairly.

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana said that our country, like the rest of the countries around the world, is still experiencing the effects of the pandemic, both from a health point of view and from an economic and financial point of view. However, during these years and nine months, this government took bold decisions and made a positive impact, which was a significant one on the economy of our country.
