HSBC Malta Foundation supports matemaTIKKA awards

The HSBC Malta Foundation has sponsored the matemaTIKKA awards, an annual initiative organised by the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes within the Ministry of Education to promote innovative practices in schools and colleges which strengthen student engagement in mathematics. This year’s winners came from St Margaret College Secondary School Verdala, St Clare College St Julian’s Primary School and St Nicholas College Mġarr Primary School.

This year’s edition focused on projects which adopted online and digital approaches to facilitate student, educator and parent or guardian engagement and active participation. The winning projects pursued different ideas within this context. The Gold Award went to St Margaret College Secondary School Verdala’s ‘Verdala Shopping Experience’, while the Silver Award went to St Clare College St Julian’s Primary school’s ‘An Open Classroom with a Twist’, and the Bronze Award went to St Nicholas College Mġarr Primary school’s ‘Around Malta Digital Scavenger Hunt’.

When presenting the awards, Marica Delia, Head of Operational Management at Digital Business Services at HSBC Malta said, “COVID-19 disrupted almost all aspects of our lives, including education. However, this challenging period has also shown how resilient and innovative we can be. The HSBC Malta Foundation has supported matemaTIKKA for several years because we understand the importance of numeracy. This year’s event, however, was even better as it adapted to the circumstances, adding important digital skills that will certainly be useful for these students in the future.”
